Nascido em 22 de março de 1972, em Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Advogado formado pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica Argentina em 1995 e Agente de Patentes e Marcas, com atuação especializada em marcas, patentes, direitos autorais, proteção de dados, direito de imagem, direito desportivo, propriedade intelectual e contratos e acordos correlatos. Possui pós-graduação pela Universidade de Palermo, concluída em 1997.
Presidente da Associação Interamericana da Propriedade Intelectual (ASIPI) para o mandato 2026–2027. Integra o Comitê Executivo da entidade desde 2015, tendo anteriormente exercido os cargos de Tesoureiro, Secretário-Geral e Primeiro Vice-Presidente.
Sócio do escritório Noetinger & Armando, banca especializada em todos os tipos de serviços jurídicos e de gestão em propriedade intelectual na Argentina e em toda a América Latina.
Presidente da Associação Argentina de Agentes da Propriedade Intelectual (AAAPI) no mandato 2020–2022. Schmuell Cantanhede has served as Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Office in Brazil since November 2025.
With over 24 years of experience in intellectual property, he has played a key role in the implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of public policies, as well as in national and international cooperation initiatives related to industrial property.
Before joining WIPO, he held several leadership positions at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO), most recently serving as Director of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications.
Mr. Cantanhede holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
